FCYC Weekly Notes…

Weekly Notes

Fermoy Community Youth Centre Weekly Notes.

No winter lasts forever and no Spring misses its turn… so we look forward to the long evenings, warmer temperatures and seeing people out and about again.  Perhaps it is just me here in the Centre but the last few months seem to have been drawn out and dreary for some reason.

This has been more obvious to ourselves here in the Centre as we have noticed a big drop in business and attendance at our weekly Wednesday Bingo this winter which we hope will improve over the coming months.  It seems to have been a winter of sickness and hardship for some and we wish all a speedy recovery while we hope for our annual top-up of sunshine and Vitamin C.

Despite the hard weather we have just finished the Blackwater Valley Fit Up Theatre Festival which took place over the last four weeks in our Palace Theatre.  This was brought to us by Fermoy native, theatre lover and Artistic Director Geoff Gould with his Creative Team of Billy O Connell, Tomasz Rols and Conor McCoy.  Geoff’s Theatre Company named “Blood in the Alley Theatre” in association with Cork County Council and the Arts Council brought us four fantastic and entertaining productions.  It was great to see this Festival well attended and we look forward to February 2019 for its fourth consecutive year.  Our thanks to all who supported all productions.

The Legend of Luke Kelly:

Chris Kavanagh will visit our Palace Theatre on Saturday 14th April next.  Come and join this leading “balladeer” who visits us with the blessing of the Luke Kelly family. Chris will perform the amazing songs of Luke Kelly and The Dubliners plus many other famous Irish ballads.  Tickets are on sale now at €18.00 so get yours now and join in our celebration of all that is great about Irish Ballads and music at the Palace Theatre, Fermoy.

Future Development:

On Sunday 4th Feb last a Social Dance was held in the Dance Hall from 3pm to 6pm.  Edmond O Gorman (Blue Pacific) provided excellent entertainment while the ladies of our Thursday night dancing group provided us with the best of mouthwatering food which was followed by many licking their fingers, a great compliment to all providers.

Many have asked did we raise much funds, as this event was our first to raise funds for our new floor.  Having paid all expenses which were kept to a minimum, a total of €270 was raised from our raffle and entrance fee, so it’s a long way to go to get our €10,000 for our new floor. However, many thanks to all who attended and organized this great afternoon’s entertainment.

Social Dancing:

Don’t forget that each Thursday night at 8.30pm we have Social Dancing here in the Dance Hall.  An instructor is available to help with those who wish to learn new steps.  There is an admission of €7 which includes refreshments.

Customer Satisfaction Survey:

We recently commissioned Karen Twomey of Communications Hub, South Cregg, Fermoy to conduct a Satisfaction Survey of the Centre to help assist our Management improve the service we provide to our customers and to the Community.  This made interesting reading and we will let you know the results in the coming weeks.

We are always looking for new ideas, suggestions with which to add to our extensive array of events and look forward to your contribution.
