What is Mindfulness?

Mindfulness is a gentle meditation technique whereby we simply direct our full awareness to our moment-by-moment experience. We bring a curious, open, accepting and kind attention to what we are experiencing in the present moment.

Why Take a Course?

In both the Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) course and the guided mindfulness practice evenings, there is an emphasis on integrating the mind and body and relating to our experience with kindness, curiosity, openness and acceptance. This is a perfect structure to improve wellbeing and bring more self-care into our lives. Mindfulness offers the possibility of a more calm and peaceful way of being. No prior experience of meditation is necessary for either course.

Scientific research(e.g. Chiesa &Seretti, 2010) suggests that mindfulness improves mental health (including lowering stress, anxiety, depressive thinking and increasing self-compassion), and may have positive effects on emotions and the immune system.  Furthermore, it may improve wellbeing in a range of physical ailments, including chronic pain, arthritis, cardiovascular issues and fibromyalgia.

Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR)

The M.B.S.R programme was founded by Jon Kabat-Zinn in 1979 at the University of Massachusetts Medical Centre.  This evidence-based course provides comprehensive mindfulness training and covers topics including perceptions, communication, stress patterns and how to use mindfulness to manage stress and increase self-care. Home practice is central to the course. The MBSR course includes:

  • 8 weekly 2.5 hour sessions
  • One full day workshop
  • 3 guided meditation CD’s
  • Course Handbook
  • Individual meeting with facilitator before the course to find out more and cover any questions
  • No prior experience necessary

Mindful February Guided Practice Evenings

Develop a new mindfulness practice, deepen your existing practice, or simply take some time out for you with this nourishing four week course of mindfulness evenings. For the month of February, this course is held every Wednesday evening.

  • 4 weekly 1.5 hour sessions
  • 1 guided meditation CD
  • Handouts provided
  • No prior experience necessary

About Jen

Jen Ardis is a trainer and mindfulness teacher with a Masters in Psychology. Mindfulness practice has been a central part of her personal life for more than twelve years, leading her to train to deliver Mindfulness-Based Interventions (such as M.B.S.R) with Bangor University. She is experienced in group facilitation, including five years as a depression support group facilitator and contributions to the facilitator training programme. Jen runs Blue Heron Mindfulness, which offers a range of mindfulness courses, workshops and guided mindful walks in the Cork area.

M.B.S.R Programme

Friday mornings for 8 weeks (10:00-12:30)

Mindful February Guided Practice Evenings

Wednesday 3rd – 24th February, 8:00 pm-9:30 pm

Cost

The cost of the M.B.S.R course is €300.

This includes the 8 weekly 2.5 hour sessions, full-day experiential workshop, guided meditation CD’s and course handbook, as well as an individual meeting with the facilitator before the start date, to discuss any questions, the commitment involved, and whether this is the right course for you at this time.

The cost of the Mindful February Guided Practice Evenings is €60.

This includes the 4 weekly 1.5 hour sessions, guided meditation CD and handouts.

Concessions are available for people on reduced incomes, and it is possible to pay by installment.
